Myths VS Legends

There are many things that distinguish a myth from a legend.  But there are also a couple similarities.

First of all Legends are
·      Based on heroic acts by well known hero because of the legend
·      There may be some proof to support the story
·      The events happened during a specific time period.
Basically Legends are stories that have a main character, the hero. Although the hero may be real there are imagined/exaggerated features behind the story.

Second are Myths.
·      There is no actual event or time to help support the events in the myth(no evidence)
·      Usually stories explains how the world was created or how it came to be
·      (EX. Noahs Ark)
·      Usually refer to gods of ancient cultures/religions
Have mythical creature
In conclusion Myths are usually focused on explaining natural phenmenons but don’t always have the evidence to support the event.

One Similarity is that they both in the time frame of past events.

I think that the odyssey( Story of Odysseus) is a Legend because
·      It has a heroic character
·      Has evidence to support the events of the story
·      But there are also some exaggerated features. I think that the windbag was just an exaggeration of imagination to give the story flow and for things to make sense.
